Veterinary Anesthesia
High-Quality Recovery
We will let you know the earliest possible time for your pet to be ready to go home. Rapid recovery demonstrates our quality of care that we provide. Clearly there are procedures which produce unavoidably long recoveries. In terms of recovery time and quality we set new standards in terms of what we and our clients are coming to expect.
Safety
We only use Isoflurane as our gas anesthetic. Safe delivery of anesthesia requires continual patient monitoring. Safe anesthetic managment also includes recording base line date including heart rate, lung sounds, and body weight. All drug dosages and the time and route of administration are recorded in your pet's medical record. A brief summary of your pet's anesthetic experience provides invaluable information for future anesthetic managment.
Pulse Oximeter
In order to monitor general anesthesia we use a handheld pulse oximeter.  It provides us with invaluable information such as oxygen saturation, pulse rate, respiration indicator and carbon dioxide detector.

We regularly consult with experts in cardiology, radiology and dental surgery to obtain the best possible care for your pet.
Pain Management
Management of pain begins with good patient handling to reduce stress and anxiety. Appropriate drugs pre- and intra-op can reduce the spinal "wind up" ensuring easier post-op management and also provide analgesia during the procedure itself.

The goal of White Rock Veterinary Hospital is to create greater awareness of pain in our nonverbal patients, and to provide practical information that will help us make assessment and treatment of pain a routine part of practice management.
Pain management is not only humane, but helps your pet feel better more quickly and may prevent adverse medical consequences associated with uncontrolled pain. At White Rock Veterinary Hospital, we feel that managing your pet's pain is an important part of our commitment to your pet's health. During your pet's stay, analgesic (pain relieving) medications will be administered as necessary to assure that your pet is as comfortable as possible. Additional medication may also be dispensed for use at home.
Blood Pressure

We can also monitor blood pressure during general anesthesia. It also helps us manage renal failure and hyperthyroid cats.
